Faith in ███████

Poetry

1. Slightly Porcelain

She demands the stage.

Face drawn cold and white but warm.

A creator of life, a divisor.

She roams the halls. Pursuing, fleeing.

We put our cards close to her chest.

Laid at her golden altar.

She whispers and laughs, rises and bows.

They all bow with her.

2. Raging Lung

She’s at home, alone, sitting on a neutral-colored couch.

Tension headache washed down with ex-iced coffee.

Opens another new tab on her phone, reads an article about optimizing reach.

Opens her email. Empty.

Opens, closes, opens, closes Instagram. Checks her numbers.

Changes again – faded orange-pink athleisure.

Color like a sanded resin peach.

She remembers the voiced concern.

3. Over Again

Early morning skincare routine.

Oat lotion odorizes the bathroom.

Lukewarm glass of water with lemon juice. Plasticky.

She makes an omelet and two slices of whole wheat toast

that come out just a little too charred.

Crunching and scrolling alternate to fill silence.

Forty thousand acres burn in California.

She wakes up smelling freshly cut grass.
